Recent Events

On August 6th, Barbara traveled to Hood River, Oregon. She taught microaggressions and race to members of Opportunities for Law in Oregon (OLIO), a program in the Oregon State Bar Diversity & Inclusion  department. Thanks to all who attended!

On July 31st, Barbara traveled to Eugene, Oregon to teach advanced labor law to the Labor Education and Research Center (LERC) of the University of Oregon.

On several dates in July, Barbara traveled to Puget Sound, Washington to meet with the Washington Education Association. She gave extensive training to over 80 board members on implicit bias, microaggressions, and race.

On July 7th, Barbara and Marina presented an all-day training for staff and attorneys at the Oregon State Bar Professional Liability Fund in Tigard, Oregon. Thanks to all who attended!

On May 18th, Barbara was invited to present her training on Implicit Bias and Micro-aggression Theory to the Multnomah County Circuit Court Judges.

At the Oregon Law Institute of Lewis & Clark Law School‘s Annual Employment Law CLE on May 13, 2016, Barbara Diamond presented on Microaggressions and Race/Ethnicity for Employment Lawyers.

DLT sponsored our third running of ACUTE, a six-hour training for non-profit and labor leaders and professional staff on implicit bias, race, LGBTQ issues, and disability on May 12th. Thank you to our special guests Andrea Zekis of Basic Rights Oregon and D Pei Wu of Jobs with Justice  and presentor Ahjamu Umi of SEIU Local 503.  Sponsoring entities included the Oregon Nurses Association, the American Association of University Professors, the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 555, CWA Local 7901,  SEIU Local 49, SEIU Local 503, LiUNA Local 483, and the Oregon Food Bank.

On May 9, 2016, Barbara Diamond and Marina Moro were invited to present at an all day training on Implicit Bias and Microaggression Theory hosted by the Oregon Employment & Training Association.

Barbara Diamond and Carole Zoom presented a workshop titled Microaggressions, LGBTQ, and Disability: Ivtersectionalities and Diversity at the Pacific Rim International Conference on Disability and Diversity in Honolulu, Hawaii on April 25, 2016.

April 12, 2016, Barbara Diamond, founder of Diamond Law Training, presented at RACE Talks: Opportunities for Dialogue on Implicit Bias: Our Hidden Prejudices at McMenamin’s Kennedy School.  A special thanks to Race Talks and Donna Maxey for organizing this event and all of DLT’s friends that came out in support of DLT.

On April 5, 2016, DLT presented to college professors and administrators from around the country at Hunter College, City University of New York Graduate Center.  The topic was microaggressions and disability.  Thank you to CUNY for the invitation to speak at this event, the National Center for the Study of Collective Bargaining in Higher Education and the Professions, 43rd Annual Conference, “The Future is Now in Higher Education.”

The Portland State University Library sponsored a four-session training series on Implicit Bias and Microaggression theory for its professional librarians and  staff in March and April, 2016.  Librarians always do their homework!  Thanks to  PSU Library’s Assistant Professor Tom Bielavitz for bringing DLT on board.

On January 22, 2016, DLT organized a full-day conference (CLE)  on Implicit Bias,  with co-sponsors Oregon Women Lawyers (OWLS), OGALLA (the LGBTQ Bar Association),  Oregon Hispanic Bar Association, National Bar Association-Oregon Chapter, Oregon Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Oregon Minority Bar Association, and the Oregon State Bar Diversity & Inclusion Department. The keynote address was delivered by Hon. Adrienne Nelson of Multnomah County Circuit Court.   With assistance from the Oregon State Bar Diversity & Inclusion Department and the University of Oregon School of Law, over 100 judges, lawyers and law students participated in a day of arts-infused learning.

On November 4, 2015, DLT presented Zoom In, our film on implicit bias and disability, at  Reed College in Portland, Oregon.  Thank you to the Reed Multicultural Center for inviting me and for the students and staff who participated in wonderful discussion after the film showing. Shout out to DLT intern Marina Moro who made this event possible.

We brought  Zoom In  to the Northwest Public Employee Diversity Conference on October 13, 2015. Thanks to the wonderful participants who thoughtfully discussed implicit bias against people with disabilities and brainstormed ways to make their workplaces more accommodating.  This was our second time at this important conference.  Kudos to the folks who put the event together.

Teach the teachers! We brought Zoom In, our documentary on disability, to the Teaching with Purpose Conference on October 10, 2015. It was wonderful to hear the perspectives of teachers and school administrators, some of whom focus on special education.

We took a road trip to Eugene, Oregon for the University of Oregon LERC  Summer School on August 8th and 9th, 2015.  DLT  presented a six-hour training with three films to leaders  from all over the state.  Thank you to the UO Labor Employment Resource Center for hosting!

On July 28, 2015, we traveled to Bend, Oregon to show Zoom In to a diverse and attentive crowd at the Oregon Education Association’s Summer Academy.  Thank you for the standing ovation!  Professional educators have been some of our biggest supporters in enhancing tools for equity in the classroom.  Thank you to everyone who attended and to the OEA  for inviting us.

On the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Actwe hosted the release of  Zoom Ina documentary on implicit bias and disability.  Thank you to everyone who attended, especially several of the folks featured in the documentary: Peter Scroggin, Carole Zoom, Gayathri Ramprasad, and Cheryl Green.

ecember 4, 2014.   Lawyers lapped it up! Thanks to Talia Stoessel for serving as facilitator at this groundbreaking event!

A wonderful summer drive down the valley  to visit Lane Community College  to present  a 3-hour  Microaggressions training on  August 5, 2014.  It was an honor to train such a great group of people who do everything from staff the  LCC Women’s Center, maintain the facilities, police the campus, and make the College’s IT function.  Kudos to  Bob Baldwin  of the AFT  who put this together.

A dream came true!  We were honored to present two of our films to a wonderful group of educators and ESPs at the Oregon Education Association’s Summer Conference in Bend, Oregon on July 30, 2014.   Thank you to the OEA Center for Teaching and Learning for inviting me to present!  Shout out to Teresa Ferrer, who is featured in Reveal Moments and was present at the event.

Reveal Moments was shown to labor arbitrators at the Pacific NW Arbitrators’ Conference on April 2, 2014.   Arbitrator Robert Landau wrote “On behalf of the NAA Pacific NW Region, I want to thank you for your presentation at our annual arbitrators conference last week.  Your presentation on Microaggression Theory/Unintentional Discrimination was most informative and thought-provoking.  Your generous contributions of time, energy and expertise are greatly appreciated.”

Reveal Moments was viewed by the steering committee of Interfaith Movement for Interfaith Justice in Portland, Oregon in February, 2014. The feedback was very positive. Thanks to that committee for all the wonderful work they do.
